Dominic Solanke might have become Tottenham’s record signing this summer but it’s the addition of another player that has excited Papa Matar Sarr. Lucas Bergvall, 18, has appeared in both of the club’s Premier League games this season, the 1-1 draw at Leicester and Saturday’s 4-0 win over Everton.
The Swedish midfielder signed from Djurgarden for £8.5million in the summer, having already been capped by the senior side at international level.
And despite only being given 11 minutes as the Toffees were humbled on Saturday, the teenager showed some nice touches after replacing James Maddison.
Sarr, 21, has now lavished praise on the player and made a bold prediction on his career prospects. “Lucas. I really love his style,” said the Senegalese star, who made way for Djurgarden at Leicester.
“He’s never under pressure when he’s on the ball. Technically, he’s fantastic. He’s bound to be one of the world’s top players. He’s got all the assets. With work, he’ll get to the very top.”
Last month, Djurgarden hailed his new environment after signing a five-year deal. “It's an amazing place, amazing staff,” he said “I’m really happy to be here. It's been intense, it's been tough, but fun.”

£52 £43 View Deal
Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
With Ultra HD included at no extra cost, football fans can enjoy the 2024/25 season with crystal clear picture quality.
Tottenham have spent more than £125million this summer, with Ange Postecoglou now having ample midfield options having signed Archie Gray from Leeds. But while Bergvall may find starting chances limited this summer, he’s already been bullish about where he sees himself in the XI.
The player agreed to move to the Premier League in February, but didn’t arrive at the club until July. And prior to moving to England, he told the Tottenham website: “I prefer to play to play as an eight, I would say. A box-to-box player, to have the ball at my feet.”
Bergvall made 18 appearances for Djurgarden in the 2023/24 campaign, scoring six times. And widespread predictions he would become the club’s record sale ultimately proved correct.

Having come through the ranks at Brommapojkarna, he was already being billed for a big future in Sweden after representing his country at under-15, 17, 19, and 21 level. He then made his senior debut in a friendly against Estonia in January.
That remains his seldom cap, but he’s expected to bee named in the squad for his country’s games with Azerbaijan and Estonia in September. The Swedes have also drawn Slovakia in their League C Nations League group.
