Paul Gascoigne has given his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur’s rather poor season so far, questioning the club’s lack of ambition.

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been nothing short of a disaster, and fans have made their frustrations clear. Protests have been organised at different points, with Tottenham fans making loud and persistent calls for Daniel Levy to step down.

The Lilywhites’ struggles off the pitch have been mirrored by their performances on it. Spurs currently sit 14th in the Premier League and have already crashed out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Of course, injuries have played a massive role in their decline. At one point, Tottenham lost their first-choice goalkeeper, both starting centre-backs, their main striker, and several key players.

While many have since returned, the slump has continued, with Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Fulham marking their 15th league loss of the season.

Paul Gascoigne questions Tottenham’s lack of ambition

Ange Postecoglou is under increasing pressure, and Tottenham Hotspur have started drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements.

Andoni Iraola, Thomas Frank, and Marco Silva are all on Tottenham’s managerial shortlist, though no decision is expected before the season ends.

The club’s Europa League campaign could prove decisive in whether Postecoglou keeps his job.

Paul Gascoigne has now weighed in on the situation. Speaking to PokerScout, the Spurs legend shared his thoughts on Postecoglou’s tenure and the club’s struggles.

Gazza said: “He’s hanging in there. But who can take his place? They’ve had quite a few managers, and they’re not buying anybody.

“Tottenham didn’t really replace Harry Kane. But I don’t know, they just seem to have everything on a plate. The training ground is phenomenal. They spent about a billion pounds on that. They’ve got it all on a plate for them, so it’s a shame.

“The fans are fantastic, and I think they’ve just got to start buying. The fans are getting restless, aren’t they? They’re having a go at Daniel Levy. They’re protesting. But it’s not Levy who owns it. The owner lives in Barbados (ENIC). They just haven’t had the season they wanted.

“If you want to be the best, you’ve got to buy the best, and they always just seem to be relying on Son, which is tough for them. Yeah, it’d be nice for them to win the Europa League for the fans as well—they deserve it.

“We’ve got Man United in the Europa League too. We could have an all-English final. That’d be good. Man United would be decent. Who’d your money be on?

“I try not to watch football because even at my age now, I still miss it. And if I see a player not trying hard enough with the money they’re on, it winds me up. I’ll have to turn the TV over for a bit. But it’d be good to have an all-English final for the fans.”

Spurs’ season could still have a silver lining

The international break has given Spurs some breathing room, and it could not have come at a better time. This pause offers a chance to reset and attack the business end of the season with fresh intent.

While the current campaign looks bleak, there is still a chance for a silver lining. Postecoglou could end Tottenham’s long trophy drought by delivering the Europa League title.
