Paul Merson believes that Thomas Frank’s brave response to Tottenham fans booing Guglielmo Vicario won’t have done him any favours amid growing sack pressure.
Vicario was booed during Tottenham’s last home game, which came in a loss against Fulham on Saturday, after the goalkeeper gifted Harry Wilson a goal.
The defeat has only made things worse, and Frank is under pressure to get results at Spurs, with rumours flying around about who could replace him next.
Tottenham’s style of play under Frank has been criticised, as concerns are mounting over whether the Dane is the man to lead the Lilywhites forward in the long term.
Merson has claimed that Frank’s comments on the Vicario situation will be considered “unacceptable” by Spurs fans, and fears things could now turn sour very quickly at N17.

Tottenham face Brentford next in the Premier League, in a home game that could prove pivotal for Frank‘s future at the Lilywhites.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not been a place where fans have enjoyed going to this season, as most of Spurs’ success has come on the road.
While looking ahead to Spurs’ next match, former Arsenal midfielder Merson thinks Frank is in bother, regardless of whether he manages to turn results around or not.
Merson said, as quoted by Sportskeeda: “I think Thomas Frank is in trouble, severe trouble. And it has nothing to do with the results.
“What he said about Spurs fans not being ‘real’ because they booed Guglielmo Vicario isn’t something that will go down well with the club’s supporters. That comment will be unacceptable for any Spurs fan.
“It can quickly become a toxic environment.”
Frank simply can’t lose any of the next three games
With pressure increasing both on and off the field, Frank needs to really make a statement against Brentford.
Not only that, but Tottenham’s next three games are all winnable, and they come before fixtures start to get arguably more difficult.
A loss in any of the next three matches could be detrimental to Frank’s chances of staying at N17.
It seems like Joe Lewis and Co. want to back the head coach, but candidates have been shortlisted just in case things carry on the way they are.
