Pedro Porro has shrugged off Arsene Wenger’s Champions League comments following Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League triumph.
The Tottenham Hotspur players remain in high spirits after they managed to put a smile on the faces of Spurs fans who had not seen their club win a trophy in the last 17 years.
A poor Premier League campaign was capped off in the most memorable way possible, with Tottenham winning a European trophy after beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final of the Europa League in Spain at the San Mames Stadium.
The final, which pitted 17th-placed Tottenham against 15th-placed Manchester United, was far from the best of games and it took a scruffy goal from Brennan Johnson to separate both teams and one that would matter little to Spurs supporters who continue to celebrate.
Pedro Porro reacts to Arsene Wenger’s Champions League stance
Before the final between the two English sides, Arsene Wenger stated that he was not a fan of six English teams going into the Champions League.
He also stated that he wants the winners of the Europa League to remain in the competition should they win it, instead of earning a spot in the Champions League.
Pedro Porro has been speaking to the Guardian and has now opened up on the former Arsenal man’s comments, following Tottenham’s Europa League win.
MORE SPURS STORIES
According to the Spaniard, the rules have been there for a while now, insists that Spurs need to focus on themselves and not what old coaches say.
He said: “That rule has been there for years, it is not news. We have to concentrate on ourselves, not what old coaches say … even what old coaches of our own say.”
Spurs secure Champions League spot despite domestic struggles
Indeed, Spurs would now join five other English sides in next season’s Champions League after their Europa League triumph.
Porro, who has been at the heart of Spurs’ European success, would be hoping the club can build from here as they aim to compete on multiple fronts next season.
