Pedro Porro has reflected on his journey as a footballer so far, admitting that he has had to work extremely hard to get to the level of Tottenham Hotspur.

The right-back did not have the best of starts to his Tottenham career after arriving at the club during January of 2022.

In fact, after his debut for Tottenham against Leicester City, Porro was immediately written off by some pundits, who felt he was simply not good enough defensively to succeed in the Premier League.

While there are still some question marks over the Spaniard’s defending, he has shown how big an asset he can be for Ange Postecoglou’s men going forward, having managed 31 goal contributions in 102 appearances for the Lilywhites, a ridiculous ratio for a full-back.

Pedro Porro admits he is living his dream at Tottenham

The Spain international has come in clutch for Spurs in the Europa League, having scored in the quarterfinal and semifinal against Eintracht Frankfurt and Bodo/Glimt, respectively.

The former Sporting Lisbon man admits that his difficult start at Tottenham made him even more driven to improve and succeed at N17.

Speaking to DAZN, Porro said: “I’m left with a bad moment, which was my debut here, because that gave me the extra boost of saying: I have to take a step further (…) It gave me the extra boost of being able to enjoy the Premier League today.

“To this day, my hair still stands on end when I see where I am. It’s true that there’s a lot of work behind it. Other people might call it luck, or whatever, but from the first moment I told my family I wanted to be a footballer, I dreamed of experiencing moments like this, in a stadium like this, and at a club like this. It’s something I’ve had in mind since I was a kid.”

Are Spurs at risk of losing Porro this summer?

It was reported widely over the last few months that Real Madrid are big fans of Porro, but Tottenham no longer appear to be at risk of losing the Spaniard to the La Liga giants after they secured a deal to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to various outlets, Man City are considering a move for Porro, who was formerly part of their academy before his switch to Sporting Lisbon.
