Peter Crouch has picked out his Tottenham player of the season – and it is handed to a player who has proven to be a bright spark in a season that looked bleak for most of the time.
Tottenham Hotspur had a mixed season that was filled with several ups and downs, but ultimately ended on a high.
Many would remember this season fondly because of the club’s Europa League run – a run that saw them end their 17-year wait for silverware, after they beat Manchester United in the final of the Europa League 1-0.
While several senior players were instrumental to the club’s recent triumph, including Cristian Romero, who was the man of the match, Micky van de Ven for his heroic goal-line clearance and many others, we could overlook the contributions of a few players.
Peter Crouch names Archie Gray as his Tottenham player of the season
Spurs struggled domestically this season, finishing 17th in the Premier League after losing 22 games – the most in their history.
The club’s injury crisis early on in the season did, of course, contribute to Tottenham’s poor domestic campaign, however, it was not all negative, as it brought about the emergence of a few players.
Archie Gray was brought in from Leeds United in the summer to function primarily as a midfielder; however, given Spurs’ injury crisis, the teenager was deployed as a makeshift centre-back, playing 20 games in that position.
