The young centre-forward, part of our new intake of first-year scholars, set the tone with a ruthless performance which included a perfect hat-trick – right foot, header, left foot – in the opening 31 minutes at Hotspur Way, before adding a fourth in the second period. Wolves replied in the closing stages.
Coming off the back of last week’s positive training camp in Ireland, Jamie Carr’s side needed less than four minutes to break the deadlock as Offiah nudged home on his right foot in a somewhat scrappy situation following a cross from Joel Vidal-Philbert.
It was 2-0 on 27 minutes as Ezra Agyekum this time delivered for Offiah to head home before the striker completed his treble just past the half-hour mark, Toju Wellspring winning the ball centrally and playing him through to round the visiting goalkeeper and slot in on his left foot.
We stayed alert and added a fourth on 63 minutes, Offiah this time glancing home a cross from Oliver Salter on the second phase of play in the wake of a short corner, with the only blot on our copybook arriving three minutes from time when the visitors grabbed a consolation goal.
“It was a really pleasing performance both in and out of possession,” said Under-18s Coach Jamie Carr. “The boys showed a level of creativity that was impressive and which came from crosses and playing through the inside. When Wolves went into more of a block, we showed good understanding to go around them rather than through them, so that was pleasing too. Phoenix attacked a few crosses and scored four goals – he did well in those moments and showed a bit of ruthlessness.”
