Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Michael Brown has told Ange Postecoglou to simply 'walk off' and ignore the travelling Spurs fans, should he win them the Europa League final in Bilbao next week - in what would be a dramatic end to his tumultuous campaign at the north London club.

Their Premier League campaign has handed Postecoglou a nightmare year, currently sitting in 17th place in the table - and although safety has been secured for some weeks, it would be their worst-ever Premier League finish, having mustered a measly 15th in the 1993/94 campaign under Ossie Ardiles.

Brown: Ange 'Shouldn't Celebrate With Fans' if he Wins Europa League Title

The Australian has come under a lot of backlash in recent months

Perhaps the Australian boss can take some solace in the fact that their opponents in the Europa League final are Manchester United - another 'Big Six' club who are also in turmoil, sitting just one point above Spurs after a torrid run of form under boss Ruben Amorim.

But if Postecoglou does deliver the promise he made earlier in the season, in which he claimed that he 'always' wins a trophy in his second season, Brown has stated that he should simply turn his back on the supporters despite their efforts to travel to Spain, as a result of the backlash he's faced for the poor campaign.

Brown said on the BBC's 'Premier League Review' channel:

"Spurs are favourites, no? I did this on Friday in the show with Darren, and I just said - he just walks, goes and wins it, and just goes over the crowd.

"Imagine the moment if he did it and just walked over, and just going 'see you later, thanks'.

"It'll be too good. Just walk down the tunnel, go over to the fans, wave, go 'there you go'.

"Walk down the tunnel, don't watch the trophy [lift] and meet the players later. I'd say 'thank you'."

Their current season is lightyears away from last time out, where Spurs finished fifth under the former Celtic gaffer to really ignite a sense of optimism in the capital.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Ange Postecoglou has won 46 of his 98 games in charge of Tottenham.

A defeat is likely to see Postecoglou sacked, and there remains the possibility that he is given the boot regardless of the result in northern Spain, even if it ends Tottenham's 17-year-wait without a trophy, with their previous triumph being in the 2008 League Cup final.
