Tottenham Hotspur’s survival hopes will be defined by how they navigate each of their final seven fixtures in comparison to West Ham. We have now attempted to predict the results of Spurs’ last seven league games in the relegation battle.
Tottenham Hotspur need to start getting points on the board if they are to keep their Premier League status.
This is one of the most competitive relegation fights in recent years, as the often-viewed magic 30 points, which Tottenham have managed, is far from enough to guarantee their safety.
As it stands, Spurs are just one point clear of West Ham United, who are in the bottom three, while three points is the difference between Tottenham and 15th-placed Leeds United, who themselves can equally get relegated.
Of course, many Spurs fans will love to see their side stay up this season, and as a result, we have decided to give our own prediction of who is most likely to go down between Tottenham and West Ham United.
Predicting how many points Tottenham and West Ham will manage in final seven league games
Ordinarily, as Tottenham fans, there is a tendency for bias to set in, so in order for this prediction to remain balanced, we will instead look at the data and work through each fixture step by step, building a clearer picture of how the run-in could unfold.

Match-by-match predictions (in order of fixtures)
Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur – Prediction: Loss (2-1)
The run-in begins with West Ham hosting Wolves. But despite Wolves’ recent improvement, they sit at the bottom of the table and have the worst away record in the league. You would naturally expect West Ham to win this one at home.
Tottenham then travel to Sunderland. As things stand, Sunderland look the more likely winners, especially given Spurs’ struggles. However, that could change if Tottenham appoint a new manager with Premier League experience during the break. For now, Sunderland edge it.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton and Hove Albion – Prediction: Loss (1-3)
Next, West Ham travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, and it is difficult to look past a home win here. Palace should have enough to get the better of the Hammers.
Tottenham’s first home game in this stretch comes against Brighton. Interestingly, these two met on the final day of last season, with Brighton winning 4-1 against a Spurs side that had already secured the Europa League and looked well off it.
This season, Brighton have the 13th-best away record, while Tottenham are the worst home side in the division. Another defeat for Spurs looks likely.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Tottenham Hotspur – Prediction: Win (1-2)
West Ham then hosts Everton, who are pushing for European places and are in strong form. While Everton may have the edge, this feels like a game where West Ham could grind something out, so a draw looks a fair prediction.
At the same time in the schedule, Tottenham travel to Wolves. Spurs have actually been one of the better away sides, and this looks like their best chance to pick up a win. You can see them getting the job done here.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur – Prediction: Loss (2-0)
Next up, West Ham travel to Brentford, while Tottenham face Aston Villa away. Both are tough fixtures. Brentford are chasing Europe, and Villa away is a difficult test for anyone. These are finely balanced games, but if anything, Spurs have the tougher assignment here.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United – Prediction: Win (2-1)
The week of May 9 could prove decisive. Tottenham host Leeds United in what could be a relegation six-pointer. The pressure will be immense, and Spurs simply have to win this, especially with West Ham facing Arsenal in a fixture you would expect them to lose.
Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur – Prediction: Draw (1-1)
The following week is massive for both sides. Tottenham travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, a game that carries huge stakes.
Chelsea could effectively send Spurs down with a win, much like they ended Tottenham’s title hopes in the past. However, this one feels like it could end in a draw.
At the same time, West Ham travel to Newcastle. The Magpies have been inconsistent this season, making this difficult to call. A draw looks the most reasonable outcome here as well.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton – Prediction: Win (2-1)
Everything could come down to the final day. Tottenham host Everton, while West Ham face Leeds United at the London Stadium. This could easily turn into a three-way survival battle between Spurs, Leeds, and West Ham.
You would expect Spurs to rise to the occasion at home and beat Everton to all but secure safety. West Ham, meanwhile, should also have enough to beat Leeds, but their poor goal difference could ultimately prove costly.
Projected table
In all, we expect Tottenham to edge this battle by three points, with both sides winning on the final day, but Spurs’ slightly better goal difference and stronger away form proving enough to keep them above the line.
