Newcastle United surrendered yet another lead to lose 2-1 to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.

Will Osula put the Magpies ahead on the brink of half-time but substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a late brace as Palace leapfrogged their hosts in the table.

Eddie Howe’s side slipped to 14th in the table, having dropped a staggering 25 points from winning positions.

With only six matches left to play, hopes of securing European qualification are fading badly. They are 10 points below fifth place Liverpool and five behind seventh place Brentford.

Next up for Newcastle is the visit of Howe’s former club AFC Bournemouth, who travel to the North East full of confidence after beating league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.
