Tottenham Hotspur face competition from an unlikely source as they eye a move for a Serie A midfield star.

Based on the speculation over the last few weeks, it appears that Thomas Frank is looking to strengthen Spurs’ midfield department in January.

Conor Gallagher is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, but he is not the only former Premier League star which the Lilywhites are considering bringing back to England.

It has been reported that Spurs are eyeing a move for Scott McTominay, who has become one of Napoli’s most important players since his switch from Old Trafford in the summer of 2024.

Everton are willing to challenge Tottenham for Scott McTominay

It has now been reported by Fichajes that Everton are also prepared to offer the Scotland international a route back to the Premier League.

It is revealed that the Toffees want to add a midfielder who can contribute both offensively and defensively, and they have identified McTominay as their top target.

According to the report, Everton are willing to shell out €70m (£61.7m) to take the former Manchester United man to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January.

This is because David Moyes is a huge admirer of McTominay and sees him as a ‘game-changer’ for his midfield.

What is Napoli’s stance on Scott McTominay?

Fichajes say that the 28-year-old is happy in Naples and remains a key part of Antonio Conte’s side.

However, despite this, Napoli would consider his sale if a tempting offer comes their way from the Premier League. The publication concludes that ‘everything hinges’ on the size of the bids that arrive for McTominay.
