£65M attacker bid supposedly made

Barcelona has apparently received a €65 million offer for Ferran Torres.

This is the same Torres who was last seen by English football fans at Manchester City. He won the Premier League (2020/21) with them and made 29 appearances, scoring 7 goals in his debut season, although injuries limited his later appearances.

Barcelona’s board is internally debating the offer: It’s a lucrative sum amid financial pressures, but Torres is seen as indispensable cover for Lewandowski and has been pivotal in their strong start to the season.

Torres joined Barça in January 2022 for €55M after a loan spell. Has made over 100 appearances, contributing to La Liga titles in 2022/23 and 2024/25. He’s scored 30+ goals for the club across all competitions.

Sources close to the club suggest they’re leaning toward rejection to prioritise a new deal instead. No official response from either side yet, but keep an eye on it. It is suggested that Thomas Frank reportedly admires the player’s versatility. Fichajes added:

The London club’s sporting directors believe that Ferran Torres is a safe investment and that his adaptation would be quick. They are looking for a step up in quality, and the Spaniard fits that profile. That’s why they are determined to persist, even if FC Barcelona hesitates to accept the initial offer.

Our conclusion

Looking at just how much money Tottenham has effectively misspent, it is not unreasonable to suspect their next move. The good news, of course, is that Daniel Levy is no longer obstructing business, and that there is the hope that the Lewis Family are looking to make the business a football club again.

The idea that investing in a player who has already failed to set the division alight is questionable in my view, and a cynical person might suggest that Torres might fit well in with the names on the graphic above.

Tottenham spend well, but the various executives’ decision-making has been both woeful and severely lacking in due diligence.
