Mikey Moore has been told another season at Rangers would be a major boost for his development - but a Tottenham issue could lurk.

The winger has emerged as a key player for boss Danny Rohl amid the Premiership title race as his team sit three points off leaders Hearts. Moore has hit form and netted six times alongside three assists in his loan spell from Tottenham, but what comes after the summer remains uncertain, with Spurs flirting with a shock relegation from the English Premier League.

Rangers could possibly do another deal for Moore should the opportunity present itself and club hero Barry Ferguson reckons it’d be shrewd for all involved. Debating the winger’s future with former Celtic and Scotland defender Charlie Mulgrew on Go Radio, he reckons the guarantee of regular matches at Rangers should be enough to see a deal sealed.

Will Mikey Moore return to Rangers next season?

Ferguson said: “You can see he's playing with so much freedom and I think Danny Rohl has given him that freedom. You can see that he's definitely shown his qualities. I'm sure Rangers are going to try their utmost to try and get them back to Ibrox next season because what you don't want to see is the young man going back to Tottenham and wasting away and sitting on the bench and getting five and 10 minutes here.

“I would rather see him at Ibrox where he's going to be guaranteed to play most games and it's going to be a lot better for his development as a player. But again, he was head and shoulders above everybody on the pitch at the weekend. I think they will try everything in their power to do it and make it happen.

“But again, the problem you've got with loan players is he's not your player. A lot of it is going to be up to Tottenham. If I'm Tottenham, I'd be watching them and looking at them thinking, do you know what, another season. He's only 18. If Rangers get him next year, by the time he goes back to Tottenham, he'll be 19. He's still really young.”

What issue could Rangers have in trying to sign Mikey Moore again?

Mulgrew senses an issue though coming from Spurs this summer, as he wonders whether or not they would see the English Championship as the next step in Moore’s development, opposed to another Premiership season at Ibrox. He said: "The problem he's got is if Tottenham think that the Championship is a better route for him.

“If they think, put him to the Championship, it might be better for him. I'm not saying it is, but I'm saying if Tottenham think along those lines of way, maybe English people generally do, then that's the issue Rangers would have to get him back.”
