Rangers remain in contention for the Scottish Premiership title under Danny Rohl and will hope that the contributions of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore will help them in their quest in the remainder of the season.
The 18-year-old winger signed on a season-long loan deal last summer and has stepped up at Ibrox, in what is his first experience of regular senior first-team football after just 12 Premier League appearances for Spurs. Bagging five goals and three assists in all competitions for the Gers, the teenager has become a regular starter under Rohl and has been named in the XI in 11 of the last 13 Scottish Premiership matches.
Moore scored a late equaliser on Sunday as Rangers came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Livingston but saw the deficit at the top increase to four points, after a stunning 4-2 victory over Hearts at Ibrox the week prior had blown the race for top spot wide open.
Rangers could face roadblock in second Moore transfer deal
Rangers are ‘eager’ to sign Moore on a second loan deal this summer but could find an unlikely stumbling block in the shape of Tottenham’s unstable Premier League status, as per reports by TEAMtalk.
Moore has excelled during his spell north of the border and club officials feel that a second loan spell at the club would be beneficial to the teenager as he continues his development. The England Under-19 international is thought to feel at home in Glasgow and would be open to the idea of returning, appearing ‘equally enthusiastic’ about extending his stay.
However, if Spurs were to suffer a shock relegation to the Championship, this could change matters. Reporting claims that the north London club would be keen to have Moore within their first-team squad if they were relegated to the second tier for the 2026/27 season. While this would have been an unthinkable proposition just a few short months ago, Igor Tudor’s side are sat 16th in the table and just four points above the drop zone without a league victory in 2026.
Moore’s progress in Glasgow will be keenly watched and without a permanent buy clause in his contract another loan deal could become a possibility, as long as Tottenham remain in the top flight come the end of the season.
Rohl rages after ‘clear foul’ on Moore goes unpunished
Rohl was furious with match officials on Sunday after a late challenge on Moore went unpunished in stoppage time at Livingston, with the Spurs loanee thinking he had won a penalty after a crunching tackle by Cammy Kerr - leading to a pundit debate on the incident.
Rohl told reporters at full-time: “For me, it’s a clear foul. I think it’s on the line. And then it’s two decisions. If it’s outside, it’s a red card and a free kick. If it’s inside, then it’s a penalty and a yellow card.
“I think there’s no [contact] on the ball, the contact goes to the man. I think those are crucial moments in this [title] race as well.”
Asked if he was surprised the referee wasn’t sent to his pitch-side monitor, he said: “Yeah, of course. The first thing is, when they checked over two or three minutes, there must be something. And then I was surprised that the ref did not watch it back. Maybe he has an explanation. I don’t have this but, finally, again, we have 100 minutes to decide this game earlier.”
