The new manager is a dreamer, everyone.

Thomas Frank is hopeful over Tottenham's chances over landing what many would regard as the club's "dream" midfield transfer target in Adam Wharton, who's reportedly valued at £100m by Crystal Palace.

Spurs were linked with the then-Blackburn midfielder in January 2024 before he joined Palace and developed into an England international.

Wharton has taken the league by storm during his relatively short time in the top flight, as he missed a big chunk of 2024/25 through injury. The impact he's had when fit and available has been remarkable, and the classy English midfielder played a key role in helping Palace to FA Cup glory earlier this year.

For many, Wharton is the utopian midfield profile for this Spurs team, and Frank has reportedly identified the 21-year-old as a priority target this summer.

Dream Tottenham target Adam Wharton could cost £100m

Dean Jones (via Hotspur Related on X) understands that the France "believes" Spurs could land Wharton, even if Palace want as much a £100m for his services.

The club, via the swift but now delayed move for Morgan Gibbs-White, have shown they've got cash to spend this summer amid reports of a monetary injection from ENIC. Moreover, reports last week suggests we're close to a lucrative agreement over the naming rights of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The new manager thus may have a war chest to play with, and the addition of Wharton appears somewhat feasible if that's who the Dane wants to bolster his midfield with.

"“Adam Wharton is an excellent holding midfielder. The impact has been really good coming from the Championship to the Premier League. Brilliant left-foot, really good player...”."

Pep Guardiola

The 21-year-old is an elegant, left-footed operator who boasts press-resistance in abundance. He finished in the 91st percentile of all midfielders in Europe's top-five leagues for progressive passes per 90 minutes last season (7.91), taking plenty of responsibility in the buiild-up phase.

Wharton is the passer this Spurs midfield needs, and while he's not exactly a 'destroyer' in the Joao Palhinha mould, he is a nuisance without possession. The Englishman can hassle and harry opponents from behind, and is athletic enough to cover large spaces without being a dominant athlete.
