A Mexican striker has been offered to Tottenham by his agent.
Santiago Gimenez has been offered to Tottenham Hotspur by his agent in the last few hours, according to Spurs Insight on X via Calcio Mercato, with the Mexican striker’s representatives actively working to find their client a new club following his difficult spell at AC Milan.
The approach adds yet another name to Tottenham’s striker shortlist as De Zerbi continues his search for the attacking reinforcement that has been identified as one of the most pressing priorities of the summer rebuild. The club is expected to sign a new striker, with Dominic Solanke’s injury problems and Randal Kolo Muani’s uncertain future leaving the position chronically understaffed for a team with genuine European ambitions next season.
Gimenez’s profile is immediately interesting in the context of what De Zerbi demands from his centre-forward. The 25-year-old Mexican international arrived at Milan from Feyenoord in January with a significant reputation built on prolific Eredivisie performances, having scored 49 goals in 71 appearances for the Dutch club before making the switch to Serie A. The transition to Italian football proved more difficult than anticipated, however, and his time at the San Siro has not delivered the consistent returns that his previous record suggested it might.
The Milan connection carries an element of symmetry, given that Rafael Leao is simultaneously being linked with a departure from the same club. Whether Tottenham pursue Gimenez seriously will depend largely on De Zerbi’s assessment of whether the striker’s qualities match what his system requires, and whether the difficulties experienced in Serie A are attributed to circumstance or something more fundamental about his game.
Gimenez could thrive under De Zerbi
The fact that Gimenez’s agent is proactively offering him to clubs suggests the player himself is open to a fresh start, and a move to a Premier League club under a manager with a clear attacking philosophy could be exactly the environment needed to rediscover the form that made him one of the most feared strikers in European football during his Feyenoord years.
