Tottenham have been caught up in some refereeing controversy in the Premier League after their win over Crystal Palace.

Archie Gray scored his first goal in senior football at Selhurst Park as Spurs secured a 1-0 victory over Palace to take all three points back to North London.

Richarlison had the ball in the net on two different occasions on Sunday evening, but both of his strikes were disallowed for offside.

However, an incident in the early stages of the contest has caused confusion among Premier League supporters.

Kevin Danso booking sparks controversy

Kevin Danso was booked for a foul on Justin Devenny in the opening five minutes of Tottenham’s win over Crystal Palace, tripping the Eagles attacker as he burst towards goal.

However, the incident has sparked controversy in the Premier League, as Ruben Dias had avoided a second yellow card the day before for a very similar challenge on Nottingham Forest’s Igor Jesus during Manchester City’s 2-1 victory at the City Ground.

Forest manager Sean Dyche said after the game that he was “stunned” Dias hadn’t been sent off by referee Rob Jones.

Dyche was also unhappy with Jones’ decision to allow City’s winner, as he felt Morgan Gibbs-White had been fouled in the build-up.

Writing in his weekly blog, presenter Richard Keys agreed with the Forest manager, highlighting the inconsistent refereeing in the Premier League.

He said: “I mentioned on Twitter I was 100% behind Sean Dyche’s view after the game at Forest.

“Of course, Dias has got to go after committing a second yellow card offence. He knew exactly what he was doing.

“What was the difference between that challenge and the one Danso was booked for at Palace last night? Only that Rob Jones was s*** scared to get a card out again because he was reffing City.”

Kevin Danso walking suspension tightrope after Tottenham booking

After being booked against Palace, Danso is now just one yellow card away from a suspension at Tottenham.

The threshold for a ban rises from five bookings to 10 after Spurs’ upcoming clash with Brentford on New Year’s Day, so the centre-back will be desperate to avoid a caution at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Danso may not even start the contest, as Cristian Romero returns from a suspension of his own for the trip to West London.

Romero is expected to go straight back into the starting lineup alongside Micky van de Ven, meaning that Danso will likely be confined to limited minutes from the substitutes bench.
