Daniel Farke’s classy gesture towards James Maddison after the midfielder made his Tottenham return following more than a year out with an ACL injury has left Spurs fans full of praise.

James Maddison’s return to Premier League action in Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Leeds United was certainly a big moment for the Englishman, who had been sidelined for nine months following an ACL injury picked up in pre-season.

Maddison’s return was met with a standing ovation from the home support, who were clearly delighted to see the attacking midfielder back at such a crucial moment for the north London club.

The midfielder, meanwhile, looked like he had not missed a single minute, playing with urgency as Spurs went in search of a winner.

He also came close to giving Tottenham a lifeline when he was brought down in the box by Lucas Nmecha, but his appeals for a penalty were waved away by both the referee and VAR.

Spurs Web has already reported Maddison’s message regarding Premier League officiating and VAR, with the midfielder still visibly frustrated after the incident.

Farke and Maddison previously worked together during their time at Norwich City and, before the midfielder entered the pitch against Leeds, the Whites boss was seen signalling towards him on the touchline before the pair shared a handshake. They embraced once again at full-time.

Fans were quick to praise the Leeds manager for the classy moment. One supporter wrote on X: “Daniel Farke shaking James Maddison’s hand before he goes back on the pitch after over a year out. What a class gentleman Daniel is. Just a lovely bloke.”

He shows such great sportsmanship; he’s a true legend.” One more wrote: “Pure class from him, practically kickstarted his career at Norwich.” Another added: “Farke is a proper gentleman, basically saying hello to an old friend.”

Farke also made clear the respect he still has for his former midfielder while speaking to football.london after the game.

Discussing Maddison and the qualities he brings, the Leeds boss said: “He’s a dangerous customer for me because he was a player for me when he was young. If you love football then you love James Maddison.”

Maddison’s cameo certainly showed exactly what Spurs have been missing during his absence, with the midfielder immediately demanding possession and helping Tottenham push higher up the pitch during the closing stages.
