Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly asked the Lilywhites to sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club are in need of reinforcements ahead of next season, and their Italian boss sees the Magpies star as a dream target.

However, luring Guimaraes away from the St James Park club could be tricky as he is a key player under Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

Spurs want a new midfielder after opting against activating their option to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha following his loan spell.

De Zerbi wants Guimaraes to replace the Portuguese, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can get a deal over the line.

The 28-year-old Brazilian international ended the season with nine goals and six assists in 29 Premier League games and his creativity could be of huge benefit for the North London club.

The Spurs target created 45 chances during the campaign, with 32 from open play and 12 from dead-ball situations.

Guimaraes was involved in 11 league goals in 2024-25, 15 goals in 2023-24 and nine goals in 2022-23.

Only four players have registered five-or-more goals and assists in the Premier League across each of the past three seasons, and it is clear to see why De Zerbi wants him at Tottenham.

Guimaraes could be open to leaving Newcastle this summer, but whether joining Spurs would appeal to him remains to be seen.

They almost got relegated last term and the Brazilian could prefer playing for a Champions League club and where winning titles is guaranteed.

Tottenham are eyeing a major squad rebuild this summer and may need to convince some of their top targets to join them.
