Roberto De Zerbi won’t look at Mikel Jack after Tottenham Under-18 debut scenes

Roberto De Zerbi will not be calling on Mikel Jack anytime soon at Tottenham Hotspur.

The England Under-16 goalkeeper is a promising talent at Hotspur Way and has recently been promoted into the Under-18s.

De Zerbi needs a new first-team goalkeeper, with Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky likely to depart in the summer.

Jack faces a brutal challenge to impress the Italian boss if he is to have a chance of taking a backup spot in the squad next season.

That was likely the case anyway, given the tough position that Tottenham find themselves in, but he has not done himself any favours with his debut scenes.

What did Jack do on Tottenham Under-18s debut?

Tottenham have plenty of talented academy stars that could make the step up, like Tynan Thompson and Luca Williams-Barnett but Jack is unlikely to be one of them.

He was sent off in his Under-18s debut after just 27 minutes of the 2-2 draw with Reading, which will only increase his struggles to impress De Zerbi.

Two penalties from Oliver Boast secured a point for the young Lilywhites, but they surely could have taken all three had their stopper not been dismissed so early, which left them at a disadvantage.

Who is Mikel Jack?

Jack is a 15-year-old goalkeeper who was offered a scholarship at Spurs when he was in the Under-14s side, which is impressive.

He has already trained with the first team, despite his young age, and is very highly rated in North London with his exploits in the youth ranks.

He has four caps for England Under 16s, conceding five goals in matches against Wales, the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain in those appearances.

There is every chance that he can turn it around and eventually star for Spurs in the future, but he will have to bounce back from the red card quickly and make an impact, if that is to happen.

De Zerbi will surely be keeping his eye on the academy, trying to find players that can come into his team and provide some quality, but Jack may be towards the bottom of his list, if he was watching the clash with the Royals.
