Tottenham could be closing in on completing the blockbuster signing of Rodrygo before September’s transfer deadline.

The winger has become one of Real Madrid’s most important players over the last few seasons, and he is continuing to develop into one of the most promising attackers in world football.

Son Heung-min’s departure is set to leave Tottenham chasing a top-quality replacement, and they may have just found that in the Brazilian.

Daniel Levy has already sanctioned a big-money move for Mohammed Kudus this summer, and it looks as if he may have to get the chequebook out once again for this deal.

Tottenham to match heavy Rodrygo wages as transfer bid lodged

Tottenham have stepped up their pursuit of Rodrygo once again, following news of Son’s imminent exit.

The Lilywhites are understood to be waiting on a response from Real Madrid, having already tabled an offer for the 24-year-old, according to reports from Marca (4 August).

Their chase of such a high-calibre player is certainly admirable, but they will be in no doubt as to the level of money that it will take for them to secure his signature.

Rodrygo is thought to be earning a weekly wage in the region of £208,000, according to Capology.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the North Londoners will have to at least match that figure if they are to have any chance of convincing him to join.

“Rodrgyo could be an exciting player to bring in,” King said.

“After losing Son, that’s the kind of player that you’ve got to be targeting. That kind of experience and that kind of quality. Because no matter how Spurs want to look at it, Son is going to be a big miss this season.

“If you want to be challenging for Champions League places, then you’ve got to go and get somebody of that calibre.

“He’d be earning big money at Tottenham as well. Without doubt, they’ll have to match his current wage.

“I don’t think Spurs will be afraid of paying that kind of money for the right player, because they really have got to get this right, if they’re going to replace Son.”

Rodrygo would be an effective Son replacement

Replacing Son will be a major priority in the final few weeks of the window, and Rodrygo would be the ideal man for the job.

He has produced big moments for Los Merengues over the last few seasons, both in La Liga and in the Champions League, and he would also add crucial versatility to the Lilywhites’ attack.

If Thomas Frank could convince him to make the switch to N17, then he would have a genuine superstar on his hands.

Spurs will arguably be lacking a ‘poster boy’ for the club in the wake of their skipper’s exit, and Rodrygo could be the ideal option to step into Son’s shoes.
