Tottenham Hotspur attacker Mathys Tel has been linked with a move away from the London club.

Roma are interested in signing the 20-year-old attacker, as per Il Messagero, and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham are prepared to sanction his departure in January. He has struggled for opportunities at the London club, and he needs to play more often at this stage of his career.

Roma keen on Mathys Tel

Roma might be able to provide him with more opportunities. He needs regular time in order to continue his development. Sitting on the bench at the Premier League club will not benefit him.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has labelled him as a “strong character” in recent weeks, and there is no doubt that he is a quality player with a bright future. However, he needs regular opportunities in order to grow as a player.

Frank said on October: “He’s a young man who has a strong character and trains well every day.”

Tel should join a new club in January

Tottenham will not be able to provide him with that platform right now. Perhaps a move away from the club would be ideal. It will be interesting to see if he joins the Italian club on loan.

He signed for Tottenham on a permanent basis at the start of the season, and it would be quite surprising if they decided to cash in on him in January. Sending him out on loan could be ideal for all parties.

Regular football in Italy could help Tel improve further and fulfil his tremendous potential. He could return to Tottenham as a better player next season and force his way into the starting lineup.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops. Meanwhile, Tottenham should look to invest in a quality centre forward in January, who can find the back of the net regularly.
