Tottenham Hotspur continue to show huge ambition in the transfer market with the club now thundering into the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Tottenham are ready to complete a major overhaul of their squad this summer, and they are currently working on multiple deals to give manager Roberto De Zerbi the stronger team he is demanding.
Spurs have already added two experienced Premier League players who have cost the club nothing in transfer fees in Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi.
The north Londoners are also working to sign another centre-back for De Zerbi in Brighton and Hove Albion's Jan Paul van Hecke, with the player keen to link up with the Italian manager for the second time in his career.
With Senesi and potentially Van Hecke joining, it appears as though one centre-back will be on their way, with the most likely name to go looking to be Cristian Romero or Luka Vuskovic, who has been subject of a bid from the Seagulls.
Tottenham are also holding talks over a move for Manchester City winger Savinho, while they are negotiating with Bayern Munich over a permanent deal for Joao Palhinha, with the Portugal international impressing De Zerbi.
The 30-year-old might not be the only addition to Spurs' engine room however.
De Zerbi Really Wants Sandro Tonali at Tottenham
Tonali has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs already this summer, including Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City.
However, Romano dropped a bombshell on Monday night that Tottenham have now entered the race for the Magpies midfielder.
The journalist says that De Zerbi really wants to add his Italian compatriot to be his new midfield star for next season, and help to raise Tottenham's level again following two successive 17th-place finishes.
It is an ambitious move from the north Londoners, and they will face competition from City and Arsenal in the race for the 26-year-old's signature, with United turning their back on the deal because of Tonali's valuation.
Reports have suggested that Newcastle would want £100m to sell their 'superstar'.
Tonali Would be an Outstanding Tottenham Signing
Tottenham have made some impressive signings already and are working on three more, but Tonali would top the lot.
The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the best in his position in the Premier League since making the switch to St James' Park, and should now be in the prime years of his career.
If Tottenham chiefs want to make a statement signing that proves to De Zerbi and the fans that they mean business, then Tonali fits the bill and then some.
Paul Scholes described the Italian as the best midfielder in the Premier League early last season, claiming he was even better than Arsena's Declan Rice.
It will be interesting to see just how much Newcastle will demand to sell the Italy international this summer, given they have already received a big financial boost following the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70m.
