Sandro Tonali has joined Tottenham Hotspur in a transfer worth up to £100million for Newcastle United.
It comes three years after the midfielder joined Newcastle from AC Milan for £52million. Tonali had an eventful spell on Tyneside, scoring 10 goals in 110 appearances for the club, including on his debut, while also helping the side win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League in 2025.
But the Italian was also hit with a 10-month betting ban, which limited his impact to just 12 appearances during his first season at the club.
As reported by The Gazette back in April, Tonali believed he would be allowed to leave Newcastle this summer if the side failed to qualify for Europe. Upon agreeing a move to Spurs, Tonali revealed he had an ‘agreement’ with Newcastle regarding a transfer exit.
He also hinted that the move was a collective decision for his family rather than a personal one for him. Back in January, Tonali became a father with his child, Leonardo, being born in London.
“For a life choice with family because we come from Newcastle and last year our life has changed with our child’s birth, so we decided to change our life,” Tonali said earlier this week.
Almost exactly one year ago, Tonali and his wife, Giulia Pastore Tonali, got married. And amid all the transfer noise surrounding the move to Spurs, the couple celebrated their first anniversary.
Earlier this week, Tonali’s wife wrote: “More and more every day… Happy first anniversary my love.”
He responded: “Happy anniversary my love.”
Having enjoyed a happy life together in Newcastle, the pair will now embark on a new adventure in London.
