Tottenham have a new man in charge and new principles to adapt to as they prepare for the North London Derby on Sunday.
Igor Tudor has been getting to work on the training ground this week with his new charges as he aims to pull off a major result for the supporters and win the huge clash with Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Do so and he will become a cult hero in the blink of an eye as it will not only help Spurs in their bid to stave off an unlikely relegation, but it will also hamper the Gunners' Premier League title hopes that were this week dented by a 2-2 draw with bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Tottenham Set For Formation Change Under Igor Tudor
Under Thomas Frank, Spurs often played in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation, although it has to be said there was often a lack of attacking intent or direction under the Dane, leading to the lowly league position.
Tudor has work to do to life the Spurs squad and under the Croatian, Tottenham are expected to have a bit more attacking flair and will likely set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with the Croatian preferring three at the back across stints with Juventus and Lazio.
But that has its issues in his first game in charge against the Gunners. Captain Cristian Romero remains suspended following his senseless red card against Manchester United - his second of the season and therefore leading to a four-game ban.
Kevin Danso remains sidelined with a toe injury and Ben Davies has a broken ankle, meaning Tudor only has Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin as fit, recognised first-team centre-backs.
Tudor Could Call Upon More Experienced Heads In Defence
Joao Palhinha had been asked to play there under Frank, while Archie Gray is not averse to playing at centre-back either, having done so regularly under Ange Postecoglou last season when Romero and van de Ven were not fit.
But if Tudor is courageous, and wants to play someone in the position who is more familiar there than the more senior players, he could make a rogue choice and throw a young player - younger even than Gray - in at the deep end.
That player is 17-year-old Jun'ai Byfield, who has already made his senior debut for the Lilywhites this season, making two appearances in the UEFA Champions League and coming on for the final few minutes for his Premier League debut against Manchester City at the start of this month.
Kevin Danso Praises Youngster After Champions League Debut
Speaking after the teenager made his debut against Borussia Dortmund, Danso said: "He’s been amazing. He trains with us a lot, and he’s a very, very, very, very good player. Everybody was happy for him today to make his debut, and he did an amazing job."
Handing Byfield his full debut against Arsenal in the North London Derby would be a bold choice, but Tudor does not have too many options when it comes to his starting lineup and Byfield has already shown he is up to the task with the first-team and what better way to prove it?
