Daniel Levy might still have hopes of bringing Antoine Semenyo to Tottenham.
Semenyo had been linked with Tottenham this summer amid doubts over Son Heung-min’s future.
The South Korean could leave Tottenham after almost a decade in North London, and the Lilywhites will no doubt need a suitable replacement.
And while Spurs’ chances of signing Semenyo have been dealt a blow, it doesn’t mean that a deal can’t still be agreed further down the line.
Semenyo extends Bournemouth contract by one year
Tottenham’s hopes of signing Semenyo this summer were dashed when Bournemouth announced on Tuesday (1 July) that the forward had extended his contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2030.
MORE SPURS STORIES
However, there may still be hope. As reported by Jordan Clark via BBC Sport on Friday (4 July), the contract Semenyo signed is a one-year extension to the long-term deal he signed last summer.
And Clark believes this extension “should do enough to ward off the circling vultures for the short term at least.” That final part of Clark’s quote is what Levy could be clinging to.
Spurs could return to the charge and potentially sign Semenyo later down the line. Bournemouth have developed Semenyo into a lethal winger with killer instincts in front of goal, and it would be a shame for Tottenham to let him slip from their grasp.
However, the Lilywhites could opt to transform academy talent Mikey Moore in the same way that the Cherries have Semenyo. As a result, this could make his signing pointless when the time comes.
Levy has failed again
The extension of Semenyo represents yet another failure on the part of Levy during this transfer window.
Indeed, the left winger is not the only signing Spurs have missed out on. Defensive target Jarrad Branthwaite has signed an extension at Everton, while several players have snubbed moves to North London.
With the UEFA Champions League on the horizon, fans are beginning to wonder if their club will have to rely on the same squad that won the UEFA Europa League. As a result, Levy will need to up his game if he does not want to miss out on any more signings this summer.
