Sheffield Wednesday have been credited with interest in Tottenham Hotspur fringe player Dane Scarlett.
A forward by trade, Scarlett was handed his Premier League debut during the reign of Jose Mourinho back in February 2021.
There have been flashes of potential from the marksman but at 22, he has managed just 27 senior outings for Spurs.
Loan spells at Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Oxford United and Hibernian have failed to catapult him up the pecking order and a permanent exit may well be his next step.
Sheffield Wednesday ‘interested’ in Tottenham Hotspur forward
According to The Wednesday Word, there is interest in Scarlett from newly-relegated League One outfit Wednesday.
Owls boss Henrik Pedersen has made no secret of his desire to bolster his attack ahead of the club’s return to competitive action.
Scarlett has previously made 34 appearances at League One level, scoring four goals. He is currently on Tottenham’s pre-season tour in Australia and featured in their recent friendly win over Auckland in New Zealand.
Wednesday would be landing a player with bags of potential, albeit one who has not yet been able to live up to the expectations placed upon him at a young age.
Antonio Conte on Dane Scarlett
In 2022, while Antonio Conte was in charge at Spurs, the England youth international was hailed as the club’s best academy prospect.
As reported by the BBC, Conte said: “I don’t give a gift to my players. I think that Dane Is working very hard and he is a really good prospect from the academy. For sure in this moment he is the best prospect from the academy.
“We have a couple more players who are very good and they are training with us and improving. Dane has to continue in this way and work very hard.
“We are trying also to find the best solution for the training session with him because in the past he had many injuries but he has great potential. He has to continue to improve and to grow and to understand and to think about football. It was a signal for him because he deserved to have this opportunity to play. I repeat I don’t give gifts to anybody. They have to deserve this opportunity."
Wednesday have also been linked with Hull City’s Mason Burstow, who is said to be nearing a loan switch to South Yorkshire.
