Our Women’s Under-19s earned a bonus point in the Professional Game Academy League after a penalty shootout success over Crystal Palace on Wednesday afternoon following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Eloise Summers-Mee got us off to the perfect start as, for the second week running in the competition, we opened the scoring after just four minuteswith the forward slotting home her first goal of the season after good work from Jhanaie Pierre. However, Palace fought back and found a leveller midway through the first period with Tella Ezeh finding the back of the net.
Despite an action-packed opening half-hour at Cray Wanderers, the game lacked quality from that point onwards and, while we dominated the play in the final quarter-of-an-hour, we were indebted to goalkeeper Erin Radbourne as, in the final minute of stoppage time, she produced a brilliant save to deny Rosie Rowe from the penalty spot and subsequent send the game into a shootout.
Having fallen short in the shootout with Southampton last week, we responded well to calmly slot all four of our spot-kicks away to win 4-2 on penalties and take home an extra point in the league.
