Xavi Simons is believed to want to play in England as the midfielder is linked with Tottenham.

Tottenham need a marquee signing to kickstart the Thomas Frank era and have identified Simons as a viable option.

The Dutchman is considered one of the best young midfielders of this generation and would be a huge statement signing for Daniel Levy.

And with the former Paris Saint-Germain star seemingly ready for a big move, Spurs have all the ammunition to make his transfer dreams a reality this summer.

Simons is desperate to leave RB Leipzig this summer

As reported by Bild on Tuesday (1 July), Simons is desperate to leave RB Leipzig, who want to sell the 22-year-old.

MORE SPURS STORIES

No enquiries have been made yet. However, Spurs could advance due to the playmaker’s desire to leave Germany this summer.

However, while he believes the playmaker might be keen on the Premier League, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is keen for Spurs to recruit a more experienced player.

“Simons is certainly an attractive market option,” Wenham said.

“He’s got that big-game experience, and he’s had a lot of regular game time. I’m sure Leipzig don’t want to sell him. He’s probably one of their best players, but maybe they feel as though he’s pushing for that big-money move to the Premier League.

“It’s an interesting one, but I’d probably prefer Tottenham sign a player with Premier League experience over Simons if I’m being honest.

“We need players who can hit the ground running now, but he’s obviously a very talented player. You can see that by his record at a young age, he’s versatile too. However, I would prefer we sign a Premier League-experienced player if we’re going to spend big money on one player.”

Tottenham need to sign Simons

Tottenham fans have been sceptical about whether Levy can pull off a deal for Simons this summer.

As a result, completing a transfer presents no better opportunity for the chairman to prove he is serious about pushing Tottenham forward.

Simons is a versatile player who can play in midfield and attack, which would offer Frank some wiggle room tactically.

The 22-year-old’s profile will also be a huge boost when it is crunch time in the season and injuries begin to hit. Simons is young, gifted and an excellent prospect, which Tottenham cannot afford to miss out on now that the opportunity to sign him is upon them.
