Scott McTominay has made a strong impression in his debut season at Napoli, catching the eye of several European heavyweights. The Scottish midfielder has become a key cog in Napoli’s tactical setup, showcasing his versatility by operating both as a holding midfielder and in more advanced roles. Under contract until 2028, McTominay currently holds a market valuation of around €50 million.

While a January move appears unlikely, clubs have already begun laying the groundwork for potential summer negotiations. In the Premier League, Newcastle United view McTominay as a complementary piece alongside Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, aiming to bolster their midfield balance. Tottenham Hotspur, in the midst of a midfield rebuild, see him as a potential leader in their new structure.

Reports emerged in early November 2025 that Tottenham Hotspur were considering a “shock bid” for McTominay amid his strong form at Napoli. This was fuelled by his admitted challenges adapting off the pitch in Italy, potentially opening the door for a move. However, sources close to the player quickly denied any immediate desire to leave, emphasising his happiness and focus at Napoli. The Boy Hotspur’s Substack suggests that, whilst a January window deal was described as “unlikely,” with any potential transfer more feasible in the summer of 2026.

Meanwhile, a return to Manchester United has been mooted, and Arsenal are reportedly keeping a quiet eye on his situation. Meanwhile, the press has been buzzing over the player, referring to him as ‘monstrous’, ‘genius’, and a ‘midfield machine’.

Barcelona has also placed McTominay on its summer shortlist. The Catalan side is in search of a physically robust and technically reliable option in midfield, though financial constraints may delay any formal approach in the short term.

Napoli, for their part, are not open to selling the player in January. The club is satisfied with his performances and intends to keep him in the squad until the end of the season. Although there has been speculation about McTominay’s desire to return to England, reports suggesting discomfort with life in Naples have been firmly denied by credible sources. Any transfer will likely hinge on Napoli’s financial outlook and the player’s personal preferences once the summer window opens.
