Six Tottenham Players Igor Tudor Can't Trust In Relegation Battle

Igor Tudor was probably not wise to use a boat analogy following Tottenham's 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday night.

The reason the boat analogy was probably not well-timed from Tudor, was because it feels like a sinking ship at Tottenham right now.

The loss at the hands of Oliver Glasner's Eagles made it 11 games without a win for Spurs - a new Premier League record for the Lilywhites.

And with Nottingham Forest and West Ham United both picking up points the night previously, it means Tottenham are now just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Relegation to the Championship is now a distinct possibility for Spurs for the first time in Premier League history.

Tudor said after the game that he was brightened by the performance against Palace and used his boat analogy to speak about the players getting on board.

He said: "Maybe it will sound strange but I believe more after this game than I believed before. I saw something. I need to choose the right guys because the boat is going in the direction that I want to go and needs to go and who is in the boat can stay.

"Otherwise they can leave the boat. So when the other players will come back and choosing the right [players] I’m sure we will have a good team and the victories will come back. It’s not easy to accept the moment where we are now but it is how it is."

That begs the question who is in the boat and who is not? Who's up for the fight and who's not? GIVEMESPORT takes on a rundown of the Spurs squad.

Who's In Igor Tudor's Tottenham Boat to Save Their Premier League Status?

To be honest, this is very hard to answer. What have we seen from the players in recent weeks to suggest they are up for the battle at the bottom of the table?

Archie Gray was the best Tottenham player on the pitch against Palace, with the 19-year-old showing more senior players what is required in this situation. He's clearly on board and ready to fight.

Mathys Tel has always shown willing, desire and intent whenever he's been on the pitch - which is not often enough this season - and more than once tried to whip the crowd up during Thursday's defeat. Out of everyone he always seems to be intent on attacking his man and getting Spurs on the front foot.

Richarlison did not get much time against Palace but showed in the defeat to Fulham he is up for the battle. He's done it before, with Everton, giving his all for the cause and he's just the sort of fighter Tudor needs.

Xavi Simons took a while to adapt to the Premier League but has shown glimpses of his talent in recent months and despite being dropped for the game with Palace, when he came on he had a point to prove and got on the ball, ran at the Palace defence, drew fouls and generally got Spurs moving in the right direction.

Conor Gallagher has not been great since arriving at the club from Atletico Madrid, but he is a fighter and should be one Tudor can call upon, while Lucas Bergvall, once back from injury at the end of the month, is a fan favourite and always has the energy required for a fight like this. Dominic Solanke is the best source of goals and has come out and spoken about the situation and the need to be together, so he should be in the boat too.

Yves Bissouma may be a surprise name in the boat, having done ok under Tudor thus far, while Joao Palhinha will surely give everything for anyone, such is his nature.

The Spurs defence were not great against Palace, but Kevin Danso stood up and did his job and certain other players could learn a thing or two from him...

The Tottenham Players Not In The Boat

The Tottenham leadership group really look like they are letting the club down right now.

Cristian Romero has sat out the last four games through suspension for a needless red card against Manchester United. Spurs have missed him and when you're talking about someone being up for a fight you'd immediately say him.

Can he prove it when he comes back and lead the team through the roughest of all patches? It remains to be seen.

Alongside him there's Micky van de Ven, who will now miss the Liverpool match for his needless red card against Palace. Red cards, and silly ones at that, are not the mark of great leaders.

Then there's Pedro Porro, who probably should have been given a few free-kicks on Thursday night, showed petulance when he was substituted, mouthing off at the fourth official and banging chairs in the dugout. He's struggled to find any form this season and really just ought to take his medicine quietly.

Guglielmo Vicario is another member of the so-called leadership group and he's really not covering himself in any glory of late. He could and perhaps should have come out to deal with Palace's third goal. Avoiding that would have kept Spurs in the game.

Radu Dragusin was injured for the Palace clash and has struggled for form when called upon and is not one to be relied upon.

Randal Kolo Muani appears to be playing like someone not committed to the club. He will be going back to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and looks like he's going through the motions in a Spurs shirt.

What Of The Other Spurs Squad Members?

Pape Matar Sarr has been poor, but he may well show he can step up and fight for his place and Spurs' Premier League status. He's standing in the water, unsure whether to get on the boat or not right now.

The same can be said for full-backs Djed Spence and Souza. Are they up for it and/or capable of showing it? Time will tell.

Destiny Udogie will be back from injury soon and he should be a a real boost, but the youngster is not used to this kind of pressure and we will have to see whether he is up to it or not.

Fans will be hoping it is not long before they see Dejan Kulusevski in a Tottenham shirt too, while Mohammed Kudus will also return to action by the end of the month and show whether or not he can deal with the pressure.
