Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly held initial talks with Brentford and could hijack Manchester United's move for Bryan Mbeumo, who is 'intrigued'.
Sky Sports reports that Thomas Frank's appointment at Spurs has improved their chances of signing Mbeumo. The Lilywhites have long courted the Cameroonian forward, who excelled under their new manager at the Gtech last season.
Mbeumo, 25, has been the subject of talks between Manchester United and Brentford, with a move to Old Trafford being his preferred option. He snubbed interest from Champions League competitors Newcastle United and Arsenal, but the Red Devils have struggled to agree on a deal.
Mbeumo 'Enticed' By Tottenham Amid Frank Arrival
Spurs have been given "encouragement"
United's failure to agree on a deal for Mbeumo, thought to be valued at £70m, before Frank's appointment has thrown Tottenham right into the race. The Lilywhites have been in contact with Brentford, and there is encouragement over a potential reunion between the player and manager.
Sky Sports News stated:
"Tottenham have held initial discussions with Brentford about a deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Mbeumo is understood to be more intrigued by a move to Tottenham now that Thomas Frank has become their head coach. Spurs have received encouragement about a potential deal. Man United had a £55m bid rejected for Mbeumo before Spurs started talks to hire Frank."
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Bryan Mbeumo finished joint fourth in the Premier League's Golden Boot race last season.
Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new attacker this summer and have also been showing interest in Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo. However, Frank knows Mbeumo extremely well, having overseen his development at Brentford since bringing him to England in 2019.
Mbeumo, dubbed "insane", became the Dane's talisman last season, hitting a superb tally of 20 Premier League goals. He displayed versatility, playing in his preferred right-wing position but also centrally in a formidable partnership with Yoane Wissa.
It's thought that United have offered Mbeumo a £200,000-per-week contract if he is to make the move to Amorim's side. But their failure to beat Spurs in the Europa League final means they'll be without Champions League football next season, while Frank's men qualified.
