Tottenham Hotspur may have hit a turning point in their season this past weekend, despite only claiming a draw in their clash with Manchester United.
Spurs put in a dominant display for the majority of the game before falling behind to a Bryan Mbeumo strike in the 73rd minute, and then things were made worse when Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off after an altercation with Luke Shaw. But the team responded well and pushed back to equalise in stoppage time thanks to a Dominic Solanke header.
But the north London club should have been clear of their rivals in the game with the opportunities they created, with a number of players wasteful in the final third.
While Solanke found the back of the net with a fine header late on, he also missed some big chances in the game. The biggest, and arguably the worst, was in the first minutes of the game when he was one on one following a mistake by Senne Lammens, but he couldn't find the net.
His selection from the start was something that fans weren't particularly happy with, and the fact he was given the captain's armband also made things worse for many. His miss early on left Roberto De Zerbi 'in disbelief', while his injury and goal records are far from impressive too.
The club spent big in the summer to bolster the squad, with big money spent on Savio and Omar Marmoush, while Mykhailo Mudryk also arrived on loan. But Solanke seems to remain the first-choice striker, which is a problem.
Tottenham will have already known they wanted a new forward to replace Solanke in the summer, but things haven't quite worked out, with the team still awaiting their first win of the campaign. But they are now off the foot of the table, and with more performances like they had at Old Trafford, the points will come.
But a new forward should still be a priority, and Spurs should look to revisit their interest in a former target to ensure that they have a prolific forward on the end of their attacks.
Samu Aghehowa The Perfect Spurs Forward
Last year, Spurs were strongly linked with a move for FC Porto star Samu Aghehowa, who was absolutely flying for the Portuguese side before he suffered a serious knee injury.
The Spain forward was being widely considered as one of the best young forwards in world football before that injury, but has now returned to fitness and has made two appearances this season. But the 22-year-old has now lost his place as the first-choice striker under Francesco Farioli, despite the manager admitting previously that he is a huge fan of him.
"Samu's evolution has been remarkable. At the start of the season, I heard many comments about the fact that he did not fit our playing style and I've always said I loved working with him.
"He is young, there are things he needs to improve and let me joke that thanks to his improvements with the first touch, I've called him Francesco Totti, because he made some passes that reminded me of the Italian legend who used to make similar passes."
But with a lack of regular game time, Spurs have the chance to pounce and make a fresh move to bring him in during the January transfer window. Samu has an £86m release clause in his contract, and while it's unlikely that they pay that much, it means that there is a chance to make a deal happen.
