Son Heung-Min is now Tottenham’s all-time assist leader

We all had a lot of fun during yesterday’s 5-0 demolition of Southampton at St. Mary’s, a match that not only got Spurs off the schnide but also got Soton manager Russel Martin fired. But perhaps lost in all of the celebrations was another achievement.

When Son set up Pape Matar Sarr to put Spurs up 3-0 in the 25th minute, Sonny also became Tottenham’s all-time assist leader with 68 assists, dislodging club legend Darren Anderton from the top spot.

The past couple of years have been remarkable in that we’ve seen two records fall that some wondered might never be beaten. Anderton’s record of 67 career assists had stood for 30 years, and it feels likely that Sonny will run that record even higher before he hangs up his boots at Spurs. And of course, a couple years ago we watched Harry Kane become Spurs’ all-time leading goal scorer, ahead of the late, great Jimmy Greaves.

We already know Son’s destined to become a Spurs legend himself, but this just cements it — he’s a Tottenham record holder now. Build the statue (after you finish Erik Lamela’s, of course).
