Described as one of football’s most exciting wingers, one might imagine that there was a queue around the block for the Brazilian International, Rodrigo.
Everton chief Keith Wyness told Mark Brus of CaughtOffside he was hearing talk of Rodrygo to Spurs, whilst also mentioning a surprise potential move to Liverpool, with Florian Wirtz heading in the opposite direction.
“I think he’ll go to Spurs, but the whisper I got was a potential swap deal with Wirtz as part of it from Liverpool.”
Brus added, “Rodrygo has shown that he can be a quality player on his day, but his recent form for Real Madrid has been pretty poor. At this stage, you have to wonder if he’d really add anything to big teams like Tottenham or Chelsea.”
The form guide of players cannot be sugar-coated
We looked at Rodrygo and felt that he has had a mixed start to the 2025/26 season. He’s shown flashes of his potential in international duty and early Champions League action, but has struggled for consistent impact in La Liga, where he’s yet to score despite regular substitute appearances. His limited minutes under manager Carlo Ancelotti have contributed to speculation about his happiness at the club, with rumours of a potential winter move to the Premier League.
Rodrygo’s form has been underwhelming in club football lately, with just 1 assist in 13 domestic/UCL appearances and minimal starting roles. His standout game was the full outing vs. Getafe, but he’s been peripheral in big wins like El Clásico and vs. Valencia. Internationally, he remains sharp, netting a brace in October friendlies.
Conclusion from a Spurs perspective
Squad depth at Real Madrid can naturally limit opportunities. Reports indicate frustration, with an “ultimatum” for more minutes or a transfer push, fitting the narrative. It is difficult to piece together what the actual truth might be, but what is certain is that Tottenham do not want any more players brought in on a tide of hopes and good wishes.
Too many Tottenham players simply haven’t worked, and under the Lewis Family, a reputation for buying first-class players who can deliver is paramount.
