Tottenham are said to be interested in a big upgrade on one of their fringe players. Spurs are in a pivotal moment as they look to turn around their disappointing domestic campaign.
Thomas Frank’s men have managed to do well in the Champions League this season, but they have fallen a long way short of expectations in the Premier League. Spurs are in the bottom half for the second successive season, and Frank has come under real pressure as a result.
This window is going to be crucial to Tottenham and any hopes they have of qualifying for Europe this season, but incomings have been hard to finalise. Brennan Johnson left in the opening days of the window, and since then, it has been injury after injury for Spurs, and with only Conor Gallagher in through the doors.
Spurs need attacking reinforcements, but they could also do with more depth at the back after Ben Davies was ruled out for at least three months due to a broken ankle and subsequent surgery. Liverpool’s Andy Robertson is the main target at left-back, but a centre-back may also be required if Radu Dragusin leaves the club.
AS Roma are being linked with a move for Dragusin, who has struggled for game time since returning from a long-term injury. Dragusin was sloppy at the back during his appearances last season, although it must be added that he often found himself in an inexperienced team due to injuries that ravaged the squad.
Possible Dragusin replacement
If Dragusin is allowed to leave, Frank will likely want more defensive cover, and according to Calciomercato, Napoli defender Alessandro Buongiorno is of interest to Tottenham.
The 26-year-old was a statement signing in 2024, but he has struggled for game time under former Spurs boss Antonio Conte. The report claims Buongiorno ‘appears to have lost his focus and motivation’ amid a lack of minutes, and a deal could be on the cards, but Antonio Conte is said to hold all the cards. Buongiorno has made 18 Serie A appearances so far this season, but he has started only 13.
Napoli paid a touch under £30million for the centre-back, and they would almost certainly demand that money back, if not more given he now has more top-level experience.
