Joining us in the winter from SK Brann, where she reunited with Head Coach Martin Ho after two successful years with him in Norway, we have already become accustomed to a number of outstanding displays from the talented midfielder – but she was very much at the heart of our success at the weekend.
Scoring the opening goal of the contest in front of our Lilywhite fanbase, Olivia Holdt then doubled our advantage in the first half with a stunning strike and, although former Spur Alanna Kennedy pulled a goal back late on for London City, we pocketed three huge points that helped us secure fifth in the table and surpass our highest-ever points of 32 previously recorded in 2021/22.
Signe's key stats from London City victory
One thing to note in the opening stages of the London derby was the relentless pressing from Martin’s side and that played a pivotal role in Siggy’s opener, where she picked the pocket of Malou Marcetto inside her own box before showing composure to slot home from close range.
Taking her tally to three goals this term, only Grace Clinton (four) has scored more goals for the club before turning 21 years old than Signe.
Despite playing in a slightly deeper role in midfield alongside Drew Spence, which the 20-year-old spoke about her ‘love’ to conduct in that role, she was still highly influential in the attacking areas, having the joint-most touches in the opposition box (seven).
After breaking the deadlock, Siggy was then providing a number of opportunities for her team-mates, creating the most chances (five) throughout the encounter and was unfortunate not to register an assist on the afternoon.
She actually became the youngest player (20 years, 319 days) to create five chances and score a goal in a WSL game since Georgia Stanway in October, 2018, for Manchester City against Reading (19 years, 296 days).
Listed as one of the most ‘powerful’ players in the squad by Maite Oroz last month in the official matchday programme, the Norway international showcased her physicality and strength to glide past players, completing more dribbles (seven) in the game than anyone else with 78 per cent of those successful.
Positioning herself everywhere across the pitch, she was also making an impact at the other end of the pitch, producing three tackles, five recoveries and winning 56 per cent of her duels – on the ground and aerially.
