As Thomas Frank takes to the home dugout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the very first time, we will be seeking to extend an impressive Premier League record over opening day opponents Burnley.

We host the newly-promoted Clarets in N17 on Saturday (kick-off 3pm UK) and head into the encounter unbeaten at home across our nine league meetings to date, only failing to take all three points on one occasion in a 1-1 draw back in August, 2017.

The previous such meeting came back in May, 2024, when the Lancashire-based outfit, needing a win to keep their survival hopes alive, took a first-half lead through Jacob Bruun Larsen but we turned it around courtesy of Pedro Porro and a Micky van de Ven winner eight minutes from time to secure the victory.

With Burnley head coach and former Spur Scott Parker successfully navigating his side's return to the top flight at the first time of asking, this will be an intriguing contest to kickstart the 2025/26 Premier League campaign as our new Head Coach presides over his maiden match in north London.

Here are some headline pre-match facts, courtesy of Opta, to whet the appetite for the weekend...

This will be Thomas’ first Premier League match in charge of Spurs. None of our previous eight head coaches (including interims) have lost their first league game (W5 D3).

Spurs will open a Premier League campaign at home to a promoted team for the third time, with the previous two both ending in 3-1 victories – against Ipswich Town in 2000/01 and Aston Villa in 2019/20.

We have lost our opening Premier League game in just one of the last nine seasons (W5 D3), losing 1-0 at home to Everton in 2020/21.

Spurs have won 12 of their last 13 home games against Burnley in all competitions (D1), including each of the last six. Our last defeat on home soil against them came in the League Cup quarter-final in January, 1983.

Pedro Porro has been involved in a goal in each of his two Premier League appearances against Burnley, assisting Heung-Min Son in Spurs’ 5-2 victory in September, 2023 and scoring the equaliser when the two sides met in May, 2024.

Since making his Premier League debut for West Ham United in September, 2023, new signing Mohammed Kudus has completed more dribbles than any other player in the top-flight (216).

Across his previous two seasons in the Premier League, João Palhinha, another who could make his Spurs league debut on Saturday, made 109 more tackles than any other player (300).

During that same spell with Fulham, João won at least 50 more successful tackles than any other player in the competition (159).

This will be the third time that Burnley manager Scott Parker has come up against us as a manager, having drawn 1-1 away and lost 1-0 at home against us in the 2020/21 Premier League season during his time at Craven Cottage.

As for our opponents, Burnley didn’t concede more than one goal in any of their 46 Championship fixtures last season, keeping a league record-equalling 30 clean sheets. However, in the Premier League, they’re without a shutout in 20 games since a 2-0 win at Fulham in December, 2023.
