James Wilson now set for regular first-team minutes as new agreement sealed at Tottenham

James Wilson joined Tottenham in a deadline day move from Hearts.

Tottenham hijacked Arsenal’s move for Wilson in a last-gasp swoop for the 18-year-old talent after plenty of exit links in recent weeks and months.

Thomas Frank’s side weren’t messing around as they agreed a deal and Wilson started a medical at Tottenham within hours on the final day of the window.

A deal sheet was submitted before Tottenham announced Wilson, with the striker now set to feature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There are now questions of where Wilson fits in for the Lilywhites, with first-team minutes potentially in the pipeline for the North London club.

James Wilson set for 10+ Tottenham appearances on loan

Dane Scarlett was loaned to Hibernian, leaving Spurs with a general lack of depth in the number nine position.

Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani are the only recognised strikers, so adding another option in and around them wouldn’t go amiss.

Tottenham attacking options (excluding injuries):

Wilson could be that man for Frank’s side, with an initial loan deal agreed with Hearts, giving the Lilywhites an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Former Spurs scout Bryan King has suggested that the Scotland international could make a healthy number of appearances in N17 after signing.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “He’s done quite well with Hearts this year, and he’s got a lot to prove already.

“I’m eager to see where he’ll get his chance because he’s only 18.

“Tottenham are willing to buy him at the end of the season, but he’ll have to feature in 11 or 12 games for that to be worthwhile.

“He’s played plenty of games for Hearts, and he’s scored eight, so looking at it, if they are going to use him, they can bring him off the bench.“

Who could Wilson feature against for Tottenham?

It feels unlikely that the teenager is going to be thrown in the deep end in upcoming fixtures against the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle or Arsenal.

Things could change further down the line with clashes against Fulham and Crystal Palace, where Wilson may be given more of a chance.

Given Tottenham’s current Premier League standing, handing the youngster a chance is unlikely to make matters worse, given how bad they are already.

The Scot has the chance to prove himself in a struggling side and potentially pick up regular minutes in North London, but has to take his chance when it comes.
