Everything Theo Walcott said about ‘fantastic’ Micky van de Ven scenes vs Everton on MOTD

Micky van de Ven continues to go from strength to strength at Tottenham this season.

Van de Ven has been linked with an exit from Spurs in recent weeks, despite being named in Thomas Frank’s new Tottenham leadership team.

However, if his recent performances are anything to go by, the centre-back is here to stay.

His passion on the pitch is unrivalled, and it is clear to fans that his commitment shows no bounds.

Van de Ven netted a brace for Tottenham in their 3-0 win over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 26 October.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Theo Walcott was particularly fond of his first goal. While he pointed out Rodrigo Bentancur’s role in Spurs’ opening strike, he admitted the rest was all Van de Ven.

Speaking on the BBC’s Match of the Day after the game, he said: “What’s really fascinating to see is Bentancur. It’s all about delivery, but van de Ven puts himself in a position behind, and it’s pure strength and desire to win it.

“You can see here that he’s isolating himself from Jack Grealish, and his mindset is just to disrupt the goalkeeper without doing too much.

“I think that’s important, not to do too much to make it obvious. It’s a good goal, it’s a fantastic finish.”

His double means that Van de Ven has surpassed his all-time Tottenham goalscoring tally with his goals scored this season alone.

Previously, the defender had netted three between 2023 and 2025. In the 2025/26 season, he has scored five in all competitions.

How did van de Ven perform against Everton?

Fans went crazy over van de Ven’s attacking performance, which is understandable, but he was also solid defensively.

He won 50 per cent of his ground duels and made three interceptions against the Toffees, according to Sofascore.

Now, of course, his goals are most unconventional for a centre-back, never mind one who had only netted three for Spurs before this season.

In fact, Van de Ven netted two goals from 1.07 expected goals, which is a massive overperformance.

Not only was he clinical, but the Dutch international was getting himself into good goalscoring positions, which is reflected in his 1.96 expected goals on target.

As a result, Van de Ven’s performance against Everton was a complete one and a good indicator for Tottenham fans about what’s still to come.
