A new report has revealed that Thomas Frank’s approach to training sessions at Tottenham is very different to that of his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.
While we are just at the start of the Frank era, it is already clear to Spurs fans that things will be very different tactically under the Dane.
Frank has said that he wants Tottenham to be more balanced than they were last season, stressing the need for the Lilywhites to be effective in all phases of play.
We have already seen evidence of that, with Tottenham setting up with a 3-5-2 formation against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup clash, and having the sort of defensive control that we hardly saw them do last season.
Thomas Frank’s approach to Tottenham training is different to Ange Postecoglou’s
BBC Sport have now revealed that, unlike his predecessors, Frank is at the centre of each of Tottenham’s training sessions.
The 51-year-old will delegate elements of his coaching to the staff, but he is very much the protagonist in most sessions.
This is said to be a clear departure from the way Postecoglou operated, with the former Tottenham head coach preferring to observe most sessions from the side of the pitch and only taking the reins in the final session before a match.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Frank’s approach is much more hands-on, and it is revealed that it is due to the Dane’s love for details and the smallest of tactical specifics, which has surprised many at Hotspur Way.
What Frank did in his first days at Tottenham
BBC Sport say that just a few days after his appointment, Frank called a meeting at the club’s training ground, which is standard practice when a new head coach arrives through the door.
However, instead of inviting just the technical staff, the newcomer also invited all the non-technical staff to the meeting, including the catering, administration and cleaning staff, to lay down his philosophy.
This small gesture did not go unnoticed behind the scenes and speaks to how Frank operates, with an ethos of inclusivity being central to his style.
