Thomas Frank is set to bring a more opponent-specific tactical edge to Tottenham, with coaching responsibilities clearly defined and analysis at the heart of his approach.
Thomas Frank has finalised his backroom staff ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and his structure marks a departure from what was in place under former boss Ange Postecoglou.
There is now a more segmented approach at Tottenham, with each coach expected to focus on a specific area of the team, offering clearer roles and responsibilities.
In fact, in a recent interview, both Thomas Frank and technical director Johan Lange outlined the individual duties of the newly assembled coaching unit, as they looked to walk fans through some of the behind-the-scenes planning at Tottenham ahead of the new season.
Among those who have joined Frank’s coaching team is Joe Newton, who followed the Dane from Brentford. Newton is expected to operate as a coach analyst, and Frank has already laid out how he intends to use him as part of a more dynamic and fluid approach that will change depending on the opponent.
Thomas Frank explains Tottenham analysis structure with Joe Newton’s role
One of Thomas Frank’s trademarks is his ability to adapt his side tactically depending on the opponent, rather than rigidly sticking to a single system. That was a key feature of his Brentford teams, and it appears he is set to bring that same flexibility to Tottenham.
The Dane, now fully in charge of Spurs, has expanded on how he will implement tweaks through analysis depending on who the team is facing. At the centre of this approach is Joe Newton, who will act as the vital link between the analyst team and the coaching staff.

Speaking to football.london, Frank said: “So in the analysis front, we also got Joe Newton in who came from Brentford as well and he will be like a coach analyst.
“So he will be the bridge between the analyst team and the coaching staff so we make sure that everything is aligned in terms of training, matches, debrief pre and post-match and how we prepare for the opponent.
“But just as in as much and how we debrief the game because it is the way we play, our principles, that is the most important thing, but with the twists we use or how we tweak it to the opponent.”
Spurs hoping for brighter season under Thomas Frank
It does look like exciting times for Tottenham Hotspur, as the club looks to get back to competing with some of the best in the Premier League and in Europe.
Last season, Spurs finished in a lowly 17th place, and now the expectation is that Frank can get Tottenham back into the top six, while also performing well in other competitions, including the UEFA Champions League.
Steve Caulker, a former Tottenham defender, described Frank as a brilliant manager and stated that he believes the upcoming season under the Dane will be exciting, as he believes Frank has earned the right to be the manager of a top club.
