Tottenham endured a disastrous day at the office which will likely pile the pressure on head coach Thomas Frank. The North London side fell to a 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in a humiliating result away from home.

Three valuable points would have seen Spurs move up to eighth position in the Premier League table. However, as a result of the shock defeat, they remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

It was an afternoon when very little went right for Tottenham, including the selection of one young star who made the cut against Sean Dyche's side.

Archie Gray Endures Torrid Day Against Nottingham Forest

Frank's decision to start Archie Gray wasn't much of a surprise based on recent form. The 19-year-old has started five of the last six games in midfield for Tottenham and, as a result, he was named alongside Rodrigo Bentancur at the City Ground.

Unfortunately, it was a torrid afternoon which got off to the worst possible start when a costly error allowed Callum Hudson-Odoi to open the scoring.

Gray also picked up yellow card and had just 28 touches, while failing to win a single ground duel during his time on the pitch. The ex-Leeds starlet, who cost £30million, also recorded no tackles, blocks or interceptions during the contest.

Gray Has Work To Do To Be A Regular Spurs Starter

While every player is capable of having a bad day at the office, Archie Gray's display was perhaps indicative of a bigger problem that he faces.

Through no fault of his own, the 19-year-old has struggled for consistent game time in central midfield, playing there 30 times in his career. By comparison he has played 39 games at right-back, 21 games in central defence and 19 as a defensive midfielder.

Gray has become a victim of his own versatility and that has hindered his ability to dominate games in midfield.

Nottingham Forest are a side of immense experience and physicality and that proved to be a problem for Gray who really struggled to get a grip of the game.

With Joao Palhinha and Pape Sarr also options, it's difficult to understand how Frank didn't see either of them as a better choice for this particular game.

Still a teen, there's no doubting that Gray has an incredibly bright future ahead of him but as it stands, he needs to be given time to shine in his preferred position if he's to become a top star there.
