Thomas Frank is seemingly setting his sights on the January transfer window as his short spell at Tottenham continues to hit some turbulence.

Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea on Saturday in a game where Spurs badly underperformed against their London rivals and were lucky to escape without a worse scoreline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jamie Carragher made a brutal jibe about Tottenham’s defending for Joao Pedro’s winner, with Frank clearly disgruntled on the sidelines.

Rodrigo Bentancur was fortunate not to be sent off for Tottenham in a match where things really started to unravel, with fans voicing their discontent and Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven appearing to snub their manager when exiting the pitch at full-time.

Frank will know the pressure is on to turn things around at Tottenham, and it looks as though he could be looking to sign one forward for a second time in a bid to help him do so.

Thomas Frank sets sights on Brentford ace Igor Thiago

Tottenham have particularly struggled at home this season and there has been a real disconnect at times in their attacking play.

In a report shared by the Sunday Mirror, Frank has made Brentford striker Igor Thiago one of his top targets for the January transfer window.

Frank signed Thiago for the Bees in a £30million deal from Club Brugge but his first campaign in the 2024-25 season was blighted by injuries.

However, he has seven goals in 11 appearances for Brentford this season and Frank is said to be keen on a reunion.

The Mirror states, though, that Brentford have no intention of selling the 24-year-old and have made it clear to any potential suitors that he is not for sale in the winter window.

What has Frank previously said about Thiago?

Thiago was signed by Brentford in the winter of 2024 and officially joined later that summer after finishing the campaign with Brugge.

Brentford needed extra firepower after England striker Ivan Toney had departed for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

Frank did not exactly get to utilise the 24-year-old much given the time spent sidelined during his first campaign.

But the Danish coach spoke glowingly about the traits he possesses when reacting to his signing during his time as Brentford boss.

Speaking to Brentford’s club website at the time, Frank said: “We are ahead of the curve. We have signed a key player for a key position. Thiago is a very exciting striker who fits the role in our team.

“He is hard working and a very good pressing player. He is also a physical presence, very good in the box and can link the play. He’s progressing well in the Belgian league, so there is big potential and we are looking forward to seeing him in a red and white shirt.”
