Tottenham Hotspur failed to capitalise against the league's worst side so far in Wolverhampton Wanderers, who claimed their first point of the campaign with a draw in the capital - and one player in particular has come under certain criticism for failing to take the game to the Molineux outfit, with Xavi Simons taking flak for his performance.

Spurs were expected to beat the West Midlands outfit, who had lost their opening five games of the Premier League campaign to leave Vitor Pereira struggling at the foot of the table. But Santiago Bueno's goal for the visitors put Spurs in a predicament, and it was only in the final minute of stoppage-time that they managed to secure a point, with Joao Palhinha's effort from distance upending Jose Sa to secure what turned out to be a vital point in the end.

Xavi Simons Given 4/10 Rating vs Wolverhampton in Tottenham Draw

However, Tottenham fans will point to the fact that they should have done more to break down the Wolves defence given they were the clear favourites to win - especially with the array of attacking talent that included Simons.

The Dutchman, who joined from RB Leipzig in the summer for around £52million, was one of the coups of the summer transfer window after his exceptional form in the Bundesliga for the east German side. However, he wasn't at the races vs Wolves, unable to break down the league's basement boys on home turf.

Football London journalist Alasdair Gold gave Simons a 4/10 rating for his performances both out wide and in the middle, writing:

"Started shakily but whipped in a good cross that resulted in a Kudus header tipped on to the woodwork. Had little moments but never really got going, even when he moved into the middle in the second half. 4."

Simons Should be Dropped to Rekindle Tottenham Form

Per Sofascore, Simons had 58 touches of the ball, but only completed 23 of his 28 passes, with just three of his crosses being accurate. One of those reached Mohammed Kudus, who failed to score with a header, but Simons failed to create anything of note after that.

No shots from the former Paris Saint-Germain starlet, as well as just one successful dribble from four attempts and losing possession 23 times, was enough for him to be hooked for speedy French youngster Wilson Odobert with 12 minutes to go - a move which paid off for Thomas Frank.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Xavi Simons has five goals in 29 caps for Netherlands.

If Spurs are to avoid dropping points at home to the league's worst outfits on a regular basis, Frank needs to drop Simons. He had a poor game against one of the league's relegation candidates, and has struggled to find a natural place in the team, be it behind the striker or out wide. Tottenham's results have also worsened since Simons made the switch, winning just one of four Premier League games with him in their ranks against non-European sides.

With an array of attacking talent such as Odobert, Mathys Tel, Kudus, Richarlison and Brennan Johnson who can all play out wide, dropping Simons could be the move until he rekindles his best form.
