Thomas Frank has addressed the trauma suffered by Destiny Udogie, describing the ordeal as "a terrible situation". The Tottenham star was threatened with a gun by a football agent who has since been arrested following the incident.
Udogie had allegedly been targeted with a firearm on September, 6 in London, with the police called at 11:14 pm. It's also claimed that another man was blackmailed and threatened by the agent in question during the incident. However, no injuries were sustained in either incident.
Two days after the ordeal, the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation that led to the agent being arrested, with two months now passing since the incident occurred. The Mirror reports that the agent was arrested on suspicion of possessing firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence.
Thomas Frank Speaks Out On Destiny Udogie
While missing Tottenham's first three games of the season through injury, Udogie has gone on to make 10 appearances for Spurs this term. While missing the Aston Villa and Everton matches, the full-back played 17 minutes against Chelsea last week before playing 73 minutes of the Champions League clash with Copenhagen mid-week.
After reports in Italy leaked Udogie as the victim, and the Premier League club have now confirmed this through a spokesperson:
They said: We have been providing support for Destiny and his family since the incident and will continue to do so. Given this is a legal matter, we cannot comment any further."
Asked about Udogie's situation ahead of the Manchester United clash on Saturday, Thomas Frank was sympathetic.
Speaking in his press conference, Frank said: "I think the club, of course. It's a terrible situation to have been in. I can't speak too much about it, it's a legal case as we know.
"The club and we have done everything we can to support him and we'll do that. He's clearly doing well on the pitch which is good and we'll keep supporting him."
Udogie joined Tottenham for £20million in the summer of 2022 and immediately returned to former club Udinese on loan. Since then, the left-back has made 76 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing four assists. Udogie also played all 90 minutes of last season's 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
