Thomas Frank will be looking over his shoulders following yet another high-profile managerial sacking.

Xabi Alonso was given the shove by Real Madrid on Monday following his side’s defeat to Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana final over the weekend.

Alonso is the latest high-profile managerial departure in 2026, with Enzo Maresca and Ruben Amorim also leaving Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

Frank may well be the next manager sacked after a terrible start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Former Brentford boss Frank will be given the West Ham game to save his job, but defeat in that one could spell the end.

MORE SPURS STORIES

And Alonso’s exit at Madrid has given Frank another headache to deal with.

Xabi Alonso fourth favourite to become next Tottenham manager

Alonso was touted as an option for Tottenham while still in charge of Bayer Leverkusen, whom he guided to a shock Bundesliga title triumph the season before last.

However, the Spaniard instead opted to join European giants Madrid in what has turned out to be a bad appointment for all involved.

Still, Alonso will not be short of job offers down the line thanks to his remarkable work with Leverkusen.

One bookmaker has already installed Alonso as the fourth favourite to become Tottenham‘s next manager at 8/1.

Having another high-profile name to contend with – and indeed one out of work – will no doubt be something that is on Frank’s mind.

Frank cannot blame anyone but himself if sacked by Tottenham, however, having failed to both pick up results and indeed win over supporters with his style of play.

Who is favourite for Tottenham job?

Alonso is now level with Maresca and behind just three other names in the bookmakers’ odds to become next Spurs manager.

Jurgen Klopp is next on the list at 6/1, having been out of work since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Fulham boss Marco Silva is also 6/1, while Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner is considered the favourite at 4/1.

Palace are on a poor run of form, culminating in Saturday’s almighty FA Cup upset against Macclesfield, but Glasner’s triumph in the competition last season raised his stock massively.

In the view of many Tottenham fans, anyone would be better than Frank right now.

And if Alonso is indeed ready to get straight back into the game, there are surely not many better options out there.
