Tottenham Hotspur signed Xavi Simons during the summer transfer window, and the Netherlands International was expected to make a defining impact.
So far, the transfer has not gone according to plan, and the former RB Leipzig attacker has struggled to make his mark.
According to Dutch analyst Johan Derksen, Thomas Frank is unhappy with the attacker and the player is failing to live up to the expectations at the North London club. It will be interesting to see if he can bounce back strongly.
His lack of strength has been mentioned as one of the main reasons why he is struggling in English football. It will be interesting to see if he can improve physically and adapt to the Premier League.
Can Xavi Simons bounce back?
“Simons is failing at Tottenham,” Derksen said via Mee Met Oranje.
“The manager is unhappy with him. He’s a nice indoor player, but you need speed and strength. He lacks that.
“He’s a great player who often used his tricks in the Netherlands, and he also performed well in Germany. But in England, you find teams with the best players in the world. Not only are they much stronger technically, but they’re also much stronger physically.”
Simons is a quality player
There is no doubt that he is a technically gifted player who has proven himself in Germany. If he can work on his physicality, there is no reason why he cannot succeed in England. He is capable of operating in multiple roles, and Tattenham need to be patient with him.
With the right guidance and patience, he could develop into an important player for them. Tottenham paid a premium for him, and they cannot afford to give up on the player now.
Simons will be aware of the fact that he has not been able to hit the ground running. He will be desperate to get his career back on track, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
