Tottenham face a Premier League showdown against Brentford on Saturday, and Thomas Frank could experience further misery.

Spurs rescued a point against Newcastle in midweek with a 2-2 draw at St James’ Park, although the narrative at home is completely different.

Only Wolves have a worse record on home turf than Tottenham, who were beaten 2-1 by Fulham last weekend.

Thomas Frank will be desperate to alter that complexion, and fast, but his former club will be fuelled to secure all three points.

Igor Thiago can haunt Thomas Frank

Frank left Brentford to join Tottenham in June after seven years at the club, and since then, the Dane has been placed under increasing pressure.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He’s found out that, with raised expectations, comes less patience from the fanbase, and he’s experienced that in recent weeks.

Fans were rightfully annoyed that Tottenham failed to register a shot on target in the first half for the fourth successive match, with many criticising Frank’s style of football.

But it could get worse for the 52-year-old this weekend, as he comes up against the in-form Igor Thiago, the clinical striker he signed from Club Brugge in 2024.

Thiago has plundered 11 goals in 14 Premier League games this term, with only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland beating that record.

The 24-year-old is finally showcasing his goalscoring powers, something Frank rarely saw at Brentford, as he spent most of the 2024/25 campaign sidelined with injuries.

Tottenham want Igor Thiago

While the Brazilian could haunt Frank this weekend and push him closer to the sack, it’s unsurprising that Spurs have shown an interest in Thiago.

The Lilywhites have reportedly opened talks to sign the clinical centre-forward, and that will be music to many supporters who have watched their side struggle in front of goal.

Frank has also previously hailed Thiago as ‘exciting’, while picking out some of his key attributes that could flourish in North London.

“We are ahead of the curve. We have signed a key player for a key position. Thiago is a very exciting striker who fits the role in our team,” the manager said.

“He is hard working and a very good pressing player. He is also a physical presence, very good in the box and can link the play. He’s progressing well in the Belgian league, so there is big potential and we are looking forward to seeing him in a red and white shirt.”
