Manchester United take on Thomas Frank’s Tottenham side this weekend, and it will see him reunited with Bryan Mbeumo, but he’ll be petrified of another Red Devils star.
Thomas Frank will be fully aware of the firepower set to be lining up for Manchester United against Tottenham this weekend.
This is as Frank helped turn Bryan Mbeumo into the star that he is today, and he has always spoken highly of him, including last summer after he left Brentford.
Man Utd’s four losses vs Tottenham in 2024/25
“There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for. I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him.
“I would be surprised by what he has to offer. How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists, plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player.”
But it won’t only be Mbeumo he is fearing this weekend.
What Thomas Frank has previously said about Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha
While Mbeumo is the Premier League player of the month, Tottenham will also have to worry about an increasingly deadly Matheus Cunha.
More United News
Since returning from injury, Cunha has been in sensational form for United, and his performances have been much better than his one goal suggests. And Frank will be worried.
Speaking to Brentford club media ahead of a game against Wolves last season, Frank was full of praise for Cunha.
“They’re great on counters and in Matheus Cunha, they have one of the best offensive players in the league. He can do something out of nothing and create a goal.”
Ruben Amorim on Matheus Cunha
Cunha is a maverick. Cunha does things that are hard to find in some players because he plays with the ball, but he has an aura that can do something to opponent’s heads and that is really important.
Tottenham will be scared to take on two in-form forwards in Cunha and Mbeumo, with a far from impressive home record; it has the makings of a statement win for United.
Matheus Cunha has never been a loser against Tottenham
It won’t just be Frank nervous for what Cunha will do against Spurs, but so will the players and fans in North London.
This is because they will know Cunha has never gone to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and left with a defeat.
In his four games there, Cunha has scored once and assisted once, while playing a part in three Wolves victories and one draw.
This record will mean little, but it does suggest Cunha will have absolutely no consideration for defeat in this fixture against Tottenham.
Cunha could really hurt Tottenham as he is finding form at the perfect time.
